What is his one-day community-wide residency?
A one-day residency includes performances, workshops, and a family reading/performance night. It includes two assemblies, one 1-2 hour workshop for teachers and/or students, and a 45-60 minute family night. The residency is especially designed for and can be conducted simultaneously for students, teachers, and parents who speak only English, Spanish, or both.
The assemblies include many different types of stories, folk tales, myths, and legends, specifically geared for elementary school students.
The workshop can also serve as staff development and cross cultural appreciation both in the class and among the staff and students. Teachers and/or students will learn specific tools that they can use to create their own personal and family stories, as well as discover resources to gather other folk tales and stories. It is an interactive workshop. They will leave with stories that they can immediately tell in their classrooms as well as be inspired to gather other stories.
The family night reminds families of their own stories and encourages them to share those with their own children. This is also a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together.
What is a family reading night?
Families come together to listen to Antonio tell stories, and then are given the chance to read or tell their own stories, either in small groups or in a guided open microphone experience in front of the community.
